Chick flick- How to loose a guy in 10 days

  •  How to loose a guy in 10 days is a classic chick flick where two characters fall in love. Benjamin on the aim to win a bet has to prove he can make anyone love him. Meanwhile Andy has been given the task to write an article on 'how to loose a guy in 10 days'. Both don't have the intention to stay together, however after a short trip away they fall in love.

Romantic drama- Titanic
  • Titanic is about a young aristocrat girl, Rose, Falls in love with a kind poor American boy, Jack. Whilst abroad the most luxurious boat. However the boat unfortunately hits an iceberg causing it to fill up with water, slowly sinking. The rich women and children escape on small boats, while lower class are stuck below the decks.  Rose and Jack are still on the boat when it sinks, however jack dies of hypothermia.

Romantic Comedy- When Harry met Sally
  • When harry met sally is a comical romantic film. Both meet when Sally gives Harry a lift to New York. They meet a few years later and slowly become good friends. After a few years of being good friends they fall in love.

Crime- The Shawshank redemption 
  • A young man is imprisoned in the Shawshank prison, after being found guilty for murdering his wife and someone she was having an affair with. Whilst in the prison he forms a bond with another prisoner and together find redemption through acts of decency. The main character manages to escape through a very well thought through plan

Harry Potter trip

A couple of weeks ago we visited the warner bro's studio and had a tour of Harry Potter. It was really interesting to see how they created everything and how effort went into every single costume, prop and scene, which I was surprised to learn how long it really took. Whilst we were there we had a short lesson, learning about target audience of films, advertisement and budgets of many of the harry potter films. What I was most surprised to learn was that the majority of films are aimed at men ages 12-24, including romance films, which I would not have expected. Because of learning this fact about target audience, Lauren and I will try aim our film opening at men from this age range. This is partly why we are including a large amount of crime and action within our film opening. Here is a short video of some clips and photos we took throughout our trip!

History of the romantic crime genre

Romantic crime is not a common genre therefore it is not as popular, so there are not as many movies within the genre. However romance and crime separately have a larger history. Romance   Romance movies are probably some of the most popular films and they can be subcategorised with comedy and action too, therefore appealing to a larger target audience of women and men.  Romance films narrative revolve around love between the two protagonists. The first Romantic movie was said to be called 'The may Irwin kiss', which apparently lasted an approximate of 18 seconds and was created by Thomas Edison in New Jersey. Romance films can be subcategorised into a few different genres including: Romantic drama- Titanic  Chick flick- Mean girls  Romantic comedy- When harry met sally  Romantic thriller- sleeping with the enemy Romantic action/ crime- Mr and Mrs smith  The most famous historical romance movies include Titanic, Gone with the wind, Jane Eyre and Rom

Cinematography

During the early stages of film making only a single camera was used to film an event and the camera was left in one position only. However now film making has developed so we now have a aesthetic style of filming, showing exactly what we see on camera.  Film makers now use a number of different shots to film a scene, for instance a close up shot which draws attention to one particular person or object or a l ong shot to show where the action is located.
