Romantic crime directors

Doug Limon
Doug Limon is most famously known for directing Mr and Mrs Smith, staring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, but also for directing the Bourne Films, which are full of action which Mr and Mrs Smith also contains. Doug Limon uses many close up shots to convey characters emotions, however to show the scene takes place in New York City and not Los Angeles, where it was filmed, they use many establishing shots, which sets the scenes and show the  audience where the film is set. In addition, he uses many short shots and then cuts to another short shot, creating a chaotic and exciting effect. In my film opening I would like to use short shots to create this effect but also close up to show the emotions, as it is also a romance as well as crime.

Glenn Ficarra
Glenn Ficarra has recently directed 'focus', which is the reason I decided to change my film genre. Not only did he direct focus, but crazy stupid love, which is what I wanted to incorporate the romance aspects from. Focus uses a range of different shots and lengths of shots, when showing different aspects of the genre, for instance when showing the romantic side longer shots are used and more closeups. However in the action/ crime sections, short, quicks shots are used. Similarly to Mr and Mrs Smith, Glenn Ficarra uses similar shots for similar effects, which overall makes the whole film much more interesting. Therefore I will use these variations of shots to make my short film opening more interesting and exciting.
