Film opening ideas

Lauren and I initially wanted to base our film opening on Mr and Mrs Smith, however over the weekend I watched the film Focus again. From watching this we decided we wanted to base our film opening on the pick pocketing scene, because its an interesting scene but also a  range of shots can be used, including an establishing shot which it a key convention in in romantic crime movies.

Axel's help

Last week Axel, a professional camera man, came into our lesson and gave us advice on our preliminary videos and how to improve them. We also filmed a few more shots to show how the shots should have looked. These looked much better, as the main images in the shot were central, showing the they were most important part of the shot. One main aspect I know I have to improve now, from Axels help, would be putting the object and characters central to the frame, so that frame space isn't wasted. In addition, one big mistake I made was not filming enough footage to get what I wanted. As a consequence my film sequence jumped from one character standing up to sitting down. Overall Axel's visit was very helpful as he helped to identify the problems and allow us to fix them for our film opening.

Response to our film showing

Last week Grace and I had the opportunity to show our film opening to a group of people (37) who were 15 and above. The showing was very successful and gave us avaluable response and what to improve on. They also insured us that our film opening was of good quality. We had everyone fill out a survey aftet they had watched our film opening. Here are the questions we asked on our survey:  Do you think the sound is effective? Is there anything you would add? Do you understand what is happening in the film opening? Does it make you want to watch more of the film? Is there any way we can improve it? What would you rate the film out of 10? These were the results and as you can see from the pie charts they were a very mixed set of results:

'Insiders' Storyboard
