History of the romantic crime genre
Romantic crime is not a common genre therefore it is not as popular, so there are not as many movies within the genre. However romance and crime separately have a larger history.

Crime
- Crime films are mainly orientated around actions of criminals, e.g bankrollers, stealing, murder and ruthless characters who operate outside the war.
- Many crime films are not based on popular novels but plays, for instance 'Witness for the prosecution'
- The crime genre actually arose from the idea of a romantic crime, giving heroic qualities to the main character.
- Crime films are often associated with gangster films as they have similar conventions. Gangster films emerged during the 1930s and quickly became very popular. A lot of the time these films are associated and have links with the mafia.
