Evaluation 2- How does you media product represent different social groups?

We wanted our main character to be recognisable as part of a particular social group, someone who our audience can aspire and relate too. Our film opening has a strong female lead, similar to both Focus and Mr and Mrs Smith who also present a strong, independent women as one of the key roles. Although Isadora is an attractive character in our film opening, we didn't want to objectify or use the cinematography to sexualise her in a way that focus does, in the scene which we have used for our inspiration. Margot Robbie, in the robbing scene, wears a tight pink dress to purposely attract attention to her body, however due to the way in which we want to portray Isadora, and the weather, we would dress her in stylish yet appropriate clothing for the weather. We would like our character to have a inspirational effect on our audience, however with a comical element, which is clearly present in Focus.

We took our main inspiration for our film opening from Focus, therefore our main character is fundamentally based around Margot Robbie playing 'Jess'. Isadora is recognisable in Jess' character both in looks and personality, as we would like her to be quick-witted and sassy which Margot Robbie conveys well. However the only obvious difference we would like our audience to see is Isadora's costume.

Due to taking most ideas from Focus, there were limited ideas to be taken from Mr and Mrs Smith. However when deciding the genre of our film, this became the most useful in researching this particular genre. Similar to Margot Robbie, Angelina Jolie is presented as a quick-whitted and intelligent women, which we have tried to present through Isadora, who we hope in a sense is a role model for our audience, who we expect to be part of the younger generation.

Age
We wanted to represent a girl in her early twenties, just starting her life, similar to other films of this genre, such as Julia Roberts in 'Pretty Women'. Both characters are portrayed as being in a bad social position, so therefore result earning money in other ways; stealing and prostitution. Our setting, of Covent Garden, was a typical and fashionable place for a young adult, like our character.

Gender
We stuck to typical conventions when having our protagonist as a girl. Isadora perhaps present the stereotypical image of a young adult, who is up to date with fashion, which we believe is clearly portrayed though the choice of stylish clothing. Both Focus and Mr and Mrs Smith concentrate on having a strong female protagonist, however also feature a male protagonist. Unconventionally, both our main characters, including the almost 'Boss', are women. This is perhaps a more modern interpretation but we believe it is fitting for our film genre.

Class and ethnicity
Like Focus, we have portrayed our protagonist as middle class, ultimately shown through the Mise en scene and sound of our film. Both the costumes and location of our film opening present a sanitised, clean view of urban life, ultimately representing the portrayal of our social group. However due to the nature of the film being centred around stealing, it perhaps breaks the negative stigma surrounding lower class, who are typically portrayed as being brought up in a tough, unpleasant environment. Stereotypically speaking, black people have the attached association of violence and crime, however our film opening presents a white middle class girl, involved in stealing and criminal activity, therefore defying typical stereotypes.
